Mountaineer Opry House Schedule

The Mountaineer Opry House is located in Milton, West Virginia right on exit 28 of I-64.  The Opry House as everyone calls it is ran by Larry & Mary Stephens, and have done so for many years now.

The Opry House has approximately 550 fixed seats and several shows each year it's standing room only,   but on far too many evenings it's at a less than half full.  One of the biggest events held each year is the Bill Morris Memorial Bluegrass Band Competition on the forth Saturday in January, and some of the winners have went onto national fame such as The Rarely Herd.  Many national known acts play the Opry House every year, and some have two shows each year.

The list of names who have been on the stage is a who's who in bluegrass and many are members of the Grand Old Opry, many are in the IBMA Hall Of Honor and a few in the Country Music Hall Of Fame.  Let me start dropping a few names: Ralph Stanley, Bill Monroe, The Country Gentlemen, Jim & Jesse, Doyle Lawson, Rhonda Vincent, IIIrd Tyme Out, Mountain Heart, Marty Raybon, Lonesome River Band, Seldom Scene, Blue Highway, The Lewis Family, Lynn Morris, Eddie Adcock, Larry Sparks, The Goins Brothers, The Lily Brothers and the list goes on.  There are several country stars that have played the Opry House as they cut their teeth playing bluegrass music.

The Mountaineer Opry House has a wonderful sound system these days thanks to Larry Stephens and the Route 60 Music Company. Most nights Jack Ray, a long time sound engineer for Red Wing, is on the board makin' it sound just right.

Now don't forget to get some grub at the Opry House. Their hot dogs are wonderful, it's in the sauce!  Pop corn, candy, pop, coffee etc... All priced cheap so you can feed the family on a few dollars.

The Mountaineer Opry House is one of my favorite places on the planet. Great folks, great staff and what a history of music. If those walls could talk I'd love to hear some of the music and tall tales that have happened there the past few decades.
